GREAT GRANDMA PEARSON'S APPLE CRISP
Recipe Notes: My grandmother inherited this recipe from her mother. This apple crisp is incredibly simple and delicious! Arriving at Grandma's house to see a fresh apple crisp cooling on her counter was one of the true treats of my childhood.
Preparation Time: About one hour
Quantity: One apple crisp
Source: Great Grandma Pearson
Ingredients:
- 4 apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. flour
- 1 c. quick or old-fashioned oats
- 1 c. butter
- Some granulated sugar for apples
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Place peeled and chopped apples in a 8- or 9-inch square pan or casserole dish. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the apples and set aside.
- Mix brown sugar, flour, oats, and butter together until just combined.
- Spread oat mixture over apples. Bake for 35-40 minutes until topping is golden brown.
Tips:
- If you'd like to cut back on fat, this recipe turns out well with 1/2 to 3/4 cup butter, rather than 1 full cup.
- This is excellent with vanilla ice cream!
